What is the difference between a poster and a display?

Although sign and poster can refer to the same object, the use makes the difference.

A sign is an advertising material. It can be found in indoor as well as outdoor public spaces.

Its durability is not necessary an essential aspect; the time for which a display is visible can be relatively short, especially when advertising an event.

A poster, however, is purely decorative. It can be put up in private spaces, in magazines, etc. And it can be changed when it is not to your taste anymore.

How to make the right choices for your posters and displays?

Posters and displays are very efficient communication tools, both inexpensive and very popular. However, given the wide variety of available formats, it is sometimes complicated to successfully choose the format that is best suited to your project. To help you choose, here are the most common uses:

The posters and displays in large A formats (A0, A1 and A2), even though they are smaller than F formats, offer a great visibility. They are often put up on walls, used to decorate the inside of a room or to communicate about an event.

The posters and displays in A3 and A4 formats are perfect for indoor advertising or for decoration. Among other things, they are often used for advertising campaigns to spotlight services or products.

The posters and displays in very large formats (F4, F200, F12 and F24) are best suited for outdoor advertising. These public display formats, which are standard in APG / SGA campaigns, are ideal to draw attention in busy places and vast spaces. However, their large size requires an optimal design, in order to draw the attention of occasional passers-by, and make sure that they will instantly understand your message.

How to choose the best suited style of paper and paperweight

Posters and displays can be printed on 2 different types of paper. Depending on your project and the selected format, some papers are best suited:
For A formats, the semi-mat coated paper 135 g/m2 is the best option. For A1 formats and larger, a slightly heavier paperweight, 150 g/m2, is required, to offer a better tear resistance.

Printing on semi-mat coated paper offers a sober and elegant visual, with a vibrant colour rendering.

For F formats, we recommend that you choose Blueback paper 135 g/m2.
Specifically designed for displays, this paper is white on the front and opaque blue on the back; this blue side enables to easily apply glue, without having a previous display show through.

Selecting a superior quality finish

You want your posters and displays to be weatherproof, resistant to handling and long lasting? Selecting one of our two special treatments can then be a decisive choice.

  • Lamination is a technique in which a transparent plastic film is applied on the paper. This option brings a better protection for your poster or display, making it more long lasting, while offering a premium visual.

  • Encapsulation is the most complete solution to protect your prints. It consists in plasticising both side of the poster, with a rigid or semi-rigid coating. An encapsulated poster or display is perfectly waterproof and therefore its durability is optimal.
